Get Crafty this Christmas in Preston 2023

Whip up your own DIY decorations with a number of creative workshops and sessions taking place across the city.

Dust off your decorations and give them a touch of homemade festive cheer this season. With a host of Christmas arts and craft workshops taking place, why not flex your creative skills and make your own Yuletide cards and decorations.

Lino Printing Workshop

Location - Preston Guild Hall
Date/time - Wednesday 22 November 2023 (1pm - 4pm)

Age - 16 upwards

Learn how to create a beautiful festive print block using linocut, a fun and versatile technique.

Over the course of three hours you will be introduced to all the equipment and methods needed to design, carve, ink and print your lino block.

Using specialist tools you will explore how to make marks and create a range of effects and will have fun experimenting with colour to create a range of prints and cards with a wintry, festive theme.

Glass Pudding, Gingerbread and Wreath Workshop

Location - Barton Grange
Date/time - Thursday 23 November 2023 (10am - 12:30pm)

Age - 16 upwards

Give your Christmas tree or window a homemade festive touch this season with fun and colourful fused glass Yuletide decorations. The session will cover an array of glass 'tack' fusing techniques with glass embellishments and enamels. You will decorate a plum pudding, gingerbread and wreath.

Masterpieces will be fired later and posted out or collected usually one week later.

Round Festive Glass Decorations

Location - Barton Grange
Date/time - Thursday 23 November 2023 (1:30am - 4pm)

Try something unique this Christmas and learn the basics of glass fusing to create unusual decorations for your home. You will work creatively with glass embellishments. This is a great all-round introduction to kiln-formed glass, leaving you with the core skills and confidence to continue with glass fusing. There is optional glass cutting in this session.

An Introduction to Calligraphy Workshop

Location - Preston Guild Hall
Date/time - Wednesday 29 November 2023 (11am - 1pm)

Join Mellor and Rose for a Taster Calligraphy Workshop at the Guild Hall Foyer. 

You will learn the basic fundamentals of hand lettering along with creating your own Gift Tags and Greetings Card all in beautiful Calligraphy!

Festive Festive Felt Workshop

Location - Barton Grange
Date/time - Thursday 30 November 2023 (10am 1pm)

Originating from ancient Mongolia, felting is a fantastic fabric art form which uses wool to create beautiful pieces of work. During the session, you will use felting needles to create your design, then add fine detail with a sewing needle. Create a variety of shapes to hang during the festive season, such as snowflakes, Christmas puddings and ginger bread men.

Christmas Wreath and Yule Log Workshop

Location - Brockholes
Date/time - Friday 1 December 2023 (1pm - 3pm)
Cost - £30
Age - 18 upwards

Learn the skills required to make your own seasonal decorations from natural materials. During the session, you will learn how make a Christmas wreath to hang on your front door using  locally-sourced willow and other natural materials. There will also be a demonstration on how to create a yule log to display at home.

Design a Personalised Christmas Plate

Location - Preston Guild Hall
Date/time - Saturday 2 December 2023 (11am 12:30pm)
Cost - £20

Bring your children to paint and create their own Christmas Dinner or Christmas Eve plate.

During this 90 minute session, you will be guided through how to paint the pottery plate and how to apply Christmas designs onto it, using a range of decorating tools.

You will be able to personalise this with your names and or a message to Father Christmas if you create a Christmas Eve plate.

Once you have completed your design the plates will be taken to be dried, then glazed and Kiln fired. You will be able to collect them a week later from the Guild Hall!

Gin Tasting and Pottery Painting Evening

Location - Fired 4 U

Come and get creative at Chew's Yard this Christmas. Learn two basic macramé knots - the vertical lark head and the half-square knot. With these two basic knots, you'll be able to make a stylish macramé necklace!

This workshop is suitable for beginners ages 16 plus, no prior experience is required. All materials are provided.
