Parlick and Fair Snape Fell walk

Location: Chipping
Distance: 4 miles

The walk up Parlick Fell and along to Fairsnape Fell is considered to be one of the finest in the Forest of Bowland, boasting stunning panoramic open views of the Lancashire countryside for miles around.

Starting at the parking area on Startifants Lane, you cannot miss the slopes of Parlick. Follow the lane to the end, where you will find a gate with a farmhouse to the right and derelict barn on the left. Go through the gate to reach the main footpath up Parlick Hill.

Although only a moderately sized hill, at 432, be prepared for a fairly short-lived but steep walk up the hill side to the summit. Once there, you can either enjoy the views, before returning the way you approached, or continue along the wide ridge line to Fairsnape Fell -  often called 'the loveliest mile in Lancashire'.

Perhaps not one for young kids, but it's a great option for older children and those up for a moderate challenge. Also, don't forget to keep an eye out for the paragliders often seen soaring the skies on a clear day.

Once back, why not stop off at The Sun Inn in Chipping for some post walk lunch and refreshments. The traditional 17th century dog-friendly village pub includes a wood-fired pizza oven and a lovely garden area for those warm summer days.
