Samlesbury Hall
The Great Victorian Ghost Hunt

For the first time in history, Samlesbury Hall is inviting the public to take part in a unique ghost hunting adventure like no other.

Like psychical researcher Hereward Carrington, spiritualist Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and spirit seeker Charles Dickens - who stayed at Samlesbury Hall in 1867, perhaps as part of his personal fascination to find a genuine haunted house, YOU can become part of Samlesbury Hall's haunted heritage by taking part in The Great Victorian Ghost Hunt.

Samlesbury Hall is reputedly one of the most haunted houses in Britain with records of 13 different ghosts which are alleged to haunt the historic manor house and its grounds. Published accounts of ghostly encounters at the hall date back to 1873, the most famous of which is that of Lady Dorothea Southworth, a young Elizabethan woman who fell in love with the wrong person and paid the price for doing so...

Paul Howse from the Samlesbury Hall Ghost Project, who have created the event said:

"Samlesbury Hall is one of the UK's crown jewels in terms of supernatural heritage and as part of our 700th anniversary of the hall next year we thought it was about time we took our ghosts seriously. There are countless ghost hunting teams in the UK, but what we have created is totally unique in its approach.

Rather than walking around in the dark with gimmicky flashing boxes, we are harkening back to the grand age of the Victorian era, and using techniques and equipment that psychical researchers used in the past."

Using only human senses and a specially commissioned set of Victorian age spirit investigation instruments which match their original Victorian design and engineering, investigators will be able to use a 'Tuttle Psychograph', 'Winchester Séance Bell', 'Kennard Talking Board' along with a 'Spirit Board', designed and created in London specifically for The Great Victorian Ghost Hunt.

Other investigations have taken place at the hall over the years including television ghost hunting programmes like 'Great British Ghosts', 'Paranormal Captured' and 'Ghost Hunters International' which called it 'the most haunted place in Great Britain', but The Great Victorian Ghost Hunt will be the only event that allows those taking part to exclusively investigate the cellar and attic, which are normally closed to the public, and not available to other ghost hunting teams.

The Great Victorian Ghost Hunt is part of the Samlesbury Hall Ghost Project which was set up to investigate the many stories of ghosts at the hall. The intentions of the project are to record supernatural phenomena from historical and contemporary accounts and present it to the public through a series of tours, lectures and publications.

The Great Victorian Ghost Hunt begins at 8pm and concludes at 1am. Investigators will receive a Certificate upon completion of their investigation and hot soup, roll and butter will be provided along with tea and coffee throughout the investigation.

Samlesbury Hall is a 14th century manor house and reputedly one of the most haunted houses in Britain.

Many people have spent the night in the building and claim to have experienced things beyond our normal range of human experience.

For those who are curious, we invite you to take part in a Victorian style psychical investigation which authentically replicates the methods and approach taken by ghost hunters in the Victorian age.
